artist’s statement in German by Nees & Rase printed on inside right flap of the portfolio

artist’s statement English translation:
Structural design is related to computer graphics, but also forms a contrast to it. It can be said of pure computer graphics that, controlled by random number generators, they produce an unlimited number of forms. Structural design limits these forms by the demands of practice. Computer graphic variants proliferate like plants, structural designs are subordinate to a strict system of internal, external conditions. Structural design is therefore closer to the world of crystals than to the world of plants, it takes place in the dynamic ordering and connection of elementary building blocks of regular structure. Extremely complex structures can be defined in this way and then checked, calculated and drawn under computer control. Even structures as complex as the cities of the present and future appear to the designing and realizing mind through modern methods of structuring, calculating and representing.
