“Joanie Lemercier is an artist and climate activist, and “Fine Particles” is a blend of both. He has created many series of plotter drawings over the years and in the last three years, he has turned his attention to rendering clouds with a pointillist style. These sublime drawings represent the beauty of the natural world. “Fine Particles” pushes his stippled cloud work in a new direction by dissecting the images into measured grids. He’s referencing the objective perspective of climate science by dividing his landscapes into measured units. In doing this, he subverts the elegance of his original drawings to ask some questions from the viewer. Are the dots water droplets or pollution? Does the process of measurement obscure the cloud images to a point where they are no longer legible?
