Statement provided by the artist:
“This project began with a simple yet profound exploration of emptiness—of doing more with less. It aligned with my ongoing fascination with monochrome minimalism, a practice that seeks to distill complexity into its essential form. As I sketched, a silhouette began to emerge, a shape that reminded me of a rabbit. This unexpected discovery became the starting point for an unfolding narrative. I began creating test drawings, letting the lines guide me. Yet, as the process evolved, so did the creature. The rabbit gradually transformed into a bird: an ear stretched into a beak, fur softened into feathers. It was a transformation both natural and unexpected, as though one form
had always been waiting for the other to surface.

This work is not simply a depiction of animals or forms—it is a restrained exploration of absence and presence. Each shape follows its own logic, yet all are drawn toward a common center: an attraction to emptiness itself. It is this leap into the void, one only rewarded by time, that forgives but never punishes those willing to take the risk. Do not signal, do not encompass, do not judge, do not sanction, do not despair. But use the emptiness before you. Leap, in silence, and ignite the world behind you.

The Medium and Process:
The project exists as a generative NFT, where each piece in the series is accompanied by a corresponding plotter drawing created in my studio. While the NFT and plotter drawing share a conceptual connection, they are not bound together; the NFT lives independently in its own generative ecosystem. The plotter drawing, however, manifests physically, drawn on textured natural paper. This medium plays a vital role: the ink adheres only to the raised surfaces, leaving the valleys untouched, creating space for absence to exist anew.

The work, whether digital or physical, echoes the same call: to find ourselves in that rabbit hole, in the void, in the spaces left behind. It is there, perhaps, that we truly begin.”

“Iskra Velitchkova went on a journey to create “ANATOMY of a rabbit but bird.” Iskra is well known for her “bird” images, but that wasn’t the starting point for this new work. She started with an open exploration by thinking about “emptiness” and “how to do more with less,” which was in line with her monochrome minimalist work created during the last year. Through the process of sketching, a silhouette emerged that reminded her of a rabbit. She was delighted to discover this new animal form and she started making test drawings from the lines she was creating on screen. But, as she worked, the rabbit slowly transformed into a bird. An ear became a beak; fur became features. Her iconic birds had emerged again. To sum it up, she wrote, “And that’s how, through a generative mythology, you could say, my first birds created on a plotter came to life. Thanks to a rabbit. Everything falls into place sooner or later, I suppose.”
