Adrianne Wortzel is an American artist based in New York City. She has exhibited her work for over six decades at venues including the Asheville Art Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Ars Electronica, Cooper Union and MIT Visual List Center. Her artists’ books and electronic literature interweave elements of analogue techniques with computer-generated processes, exploring all the possibilities for the printed “Book” in the 21st Century. Wortzel’s innovative work SOLACE AND PERPETUITY, a life story was awarded a New York Foundation on the Arts Award for Fiction in 2015. Her most recent artists’ book SEE NO EVIL, was exhibited in Daily Ritual curated by Amanda McDonald Crowley at the Center for Book Arts in 2022. Her artists’ books and works of electronic literature have been collected by the Morgan Library and Museum, Harvard Library, Duke University David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Pratt Institute Artists’ Books Collection and MIT Distinctive Collections. Wortzel received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Brooklyn College and an MFA in Computer Arts from The School of Visual Arts. She is a professor emeritus in the Department of Entertainment Technology and Emerging Media Technologies at the New York City College of Technology.
